Merry Everything!

Merry Xmas Chickens!

Whether you are gathered around a sparkly tree, or gearing up (as we are) for a day of movies and Chinese food, I hope your day is happy and full of love!

Thanks to all who offered such amazing suggestions for things to hide in our walls for future owners.  We will reveal the actual bits and bobs as we go, but in the meantime, we gathered the family around to vote, and here are the winners of stocking stuffers from me!

The winners of Big Delicious Life:

Unknown- with the suggestion of blueprints and pictures
Jessica- with a bottle of wine that means something to us
Daruma- menus for take out places, map of local interest
Amanda- love letter from CS to me and vice versa
Elizabeth- a recipe box with beloved family recipes

And the grand prize winner, of a copy of Big Delicious Life AND a signed advanced copy of Recipe for Disaster is....

Noelle C- with the pictures of our neighborhood and love letter to the future

If you won Big Delicious Life, please send me your email address to staceyballisinfo at gmail dot com, and Noelle, I need both your kindle email and your shipping address!

We are still taking suggestions, and who knows, if you send a really cool one, perhaps there will be more prizes!

In the meantime, celebrate the season in the most delicious way you can, and I hope it is filled with love and joy.

Yours in Good Taste,
The Polymath

  1. Was digging around for a recipe for Christmas and got out my trusty, handy-dandy "Calling All Cooks" cookbook...the original yellow-cover. Everyone I know....aunts, cousins, uncles, friends has one of these. They were published in the 80's and were wildly popular down here. (Alabama) I was wondering if you had ever heard of them (I think there were 4 or 5 volumes eventually...I have the first 2, the yellow and red editions) or if they were a localized phenomenon? The recipes are probably a little low-brow compared to what you usually cook/bake (there is A LOT of Velveeta and cream of mushroom soup in this book).

  2. Merry Merry Stacey!
Had my comment all typed up and "Bloop" technology decided it would not want to continue the comment...LOVE technology! I will do my best in retyping...First, thanks for the guest post of Dana Bate as I have already devoured it and enjoyed it. Having been to DC a number of times, the locations were relatable...now, to get some of those delectable baked good from the Wild Yeast Bakery! Second, as to why you and CS should place in the walls for a future finder of your abode (Nice idea by the way) I thought simple...a pencil with your name and CS name on it. Even with all the technology advances we often come back to the simple, which is a pencil and it represents you at the most granular level. Also, a bottle of wine with a cork which would have both your initials on it as well as the label which would have some symbolism related and representative of you both. Who wouldn't love to find a lovely mysterious bottle of wine in the walls of their home....sound almost like a plot line for a book. Hope you enjoyed your holidays and I look forward to more posts on your home goings on along with your next book! Best always!
